About the Author: Daniel Goleman, PH.D. is also the author of the worldwide bestseller

Working with Emotional Intelligence and is co-author of Primal Leadership: Learning to Lead with Emotional Intelligence, written with Richard Boyatzis and Annie McKee.

Dr. Goleman received his Ph.D. from Harvard and reported on the brain and behavioral sciences for The New York Times for twelve years, where he was twice nominated for the Pulitzer Prize. He was awarded the American Psychological Association's Lifetime Achievement Award and is currently a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

Social Intelligence is a book based on a brand new research on brain science, which is also an emerging science of neuro-sociology, which studies about how one is molded for better or worse by interpersonal encounters in a society. Startling revelations are made by Daniel Goleman after his continuous research and study on what is the basis of healthy social behaviour in ones life. In simple way, author explains from a neurobiological angle what sexual attraction, marriage, parenting, flirting, and other all interpersonal relationship, no matter whether its mere friendship or even teacher-student relationship is.

The book begins with a prologue where Goleman tries to unveil to his readers about this new science. From there the book is divided into six parts and except for the part one, which has six chapters, other all parts has three chapters each. The first part generalizes this new science by saying that we are all 'wired to connect'. From here he starts to explain how our reactions to others, and theirs to us, have a far-reaching biological impact, sending out cascades of hormones that regulate everything from our hearts to our immune systems, making good relationships act like vitamins and bad relationships like poisons.

As the reading progresses, one understands how the intrusion of modern technology is to spoil the aura of relationships of the coming generations. He predicts that we will loose our power to connect due to this tech invasion. This disconnection is the result of gadgets like iPods; mobile phones, internet and television by people of all ages, in particular the teenagers.The questions like- Is there a way to raise our children to be happy? What is the basis of a nourishing marriage? How can business leaders and teachers inspire the best in those they lead and teach? How groups divided by prejudice and hatred can comes to live together in peace? all these are answered powerfully leaving the readers thoroughly convinced. The holistic approach of Goleman makes this book interesting and knowledgeable at the same time. We recommend this book as a must read book to all who craves for a better social understanding.
