The BPO sector is in a consolidation phase with the larger players expanding in capacity & services delivery mechanism on the one hand. On the other the specific focus on the issues like process engineering & Security being handled with expert assistance from mature markets.
The trend of the captive centres holding majority seats continues. The future of this segment is bright at-least for the next 5-6 years where the outsourcing will continue with a CAGR of >20% per anum. However in the later part of this decade the consolidation of the outsourced with captive process will come into focus.

What is IMS?
Infrastructure management services (IMS) refers to the day-to-day management of the IT infrastructure needs of an organisation. These include: server and storage management needs; network operations, including security requirements; desktop management (configuration, upgrades, maintenance); and a 24x7 helpdesk to help in all these activities.
Remote infrastructure management (RIM)
Another key trend that has helped the outsourcing of infrastructure management is the ability to do much of this work remotely. The single biggest factor helping this has been advances in telecommunications and the Internet; many of the processes can now be automated over the web, something that was not possible before. The new concept helps an organization located anywhere in the world to discreetly tap into some part of individual business and help monitor and manage these remotely. Various monitoring and remote management tools help vendors monitor and manage much of the needs from a remote location. Estimates from IDC, Gartner and others indicated that as much as 80-90% of the infrastructure management can be done remotely.
