What kind of position does Proteans hold in software product development industry, and what is its role and orientation?

Proteans is primarily an outsourced product development company working with ISV’s and software product companies and the target market being US. We are primarily focused on Microsoft.Net Solutions. Very few companies are in this domain viz., Aztec, Persistent Systems (Pune), Indus Logic (Delhi) and Aspire (Chennai),to name a few. Wipro and Satyam operates on a wide range and this is just one of their segment of focus.

How is Proteans unique, although operating on the same domain?

We are exclusively focused on outsourced product development company, unlike most Indian software services company. Most companies are just dealing with projects which involves understanding the issue and resolving the same. In US all transactions are made over the internet. Thus online ordering of food was always a befitting option which though explored, never fructified. It was Proteans who pioneered a technical solution for the same and proved to be successful. A big testimonial of the same is that food-service leaders such as Subway, Baja Fresh, Moes and several others are using the system for online ordering.

Microsoft wanted to dominate the MS CRM market and therein came the Proteans to extend their help and thus created the no.1 brand in Microsoft CRM applications.

Proteans has manufactured wide range of web, windows, service band products which has sold around 60,000 licenses around the world, ie.,not only in US but also in Europe and Australia.

Do you wish to diversify into other areas in the technology front?

The whole software industry is moving towards ‘verticalisation’, meaning specializing in a particular business segment. Proteans as an industry understands the need of this and thus focuses on financial and healthcare services and solves cutting edge problems.

Can you give us a brief information about the directors and promoters heading the company? How is their expertise or experience contributing towards the growth of the company?

All the people in the managerial level are 1st generation entrepreneurs hailing from very strong educational and technical backgrounds who have come together to realize their dream of establishing an organization, unique in its way. The CFO of the organization, Mr. Jayant Tiwari, is a senior chair person who had been the CFO of Netcraft and Healthscribe. Thereby bringing in the experience that Proteans as a start-up company requires.

Why should an employee working for an established software company be willing to join you or in other words what are the challenges that an employee faces in your organization?

There are multifarious reasons for an employee willing to join us. In Proteans engineering challenges will be higher than in other software development companies where they are primarily into handling of projects. Proteans enables employees to realize their individual potential. This company not only speaks of open and youthful culture but has also explored the true meaning of it. For instance, in “Infocus” managers talk to their reportees and there is an exchange of feedback. Can you enlighten us what ICP (individual contribution plan) is all about? Please tell us something about the HR policies in your company that motivates an employee to give his best performance.

  • Through ICP employees can learn, research on some technology or area or innovate. Under this plan, every employee participates in one of the five research streams and contributes towards some fixed quarterly goals. It is a learning and research platform. Attractive bonuses are also attached to ICP activity.
  • Performance appraisals are given bi- annually
  • “Infocus” is a program where employees are given constant feedback so that they can improve.
  • Salary is above industry standard.

How do you envision the company looking like 3 to 5 years from today?

We believe that we are poised to grow three time, each year. In terms of revenue we forecast it to grow into a $ 20 million company in the next 3 years. Proteans is determined to add lots of value to its clients in future.
