Getting into the boss's good books is not as difficult as it seems. Hurdles are bound to come in the way. It all depends on how you handle it, for the hundredth time your attitude matters:
It's not my job:
Though this may seem like music to your ears it's definitely jarring to your boss's. Once in a while, we are all asked to do stuff that may not strictly come under our job preview. Your boss will definitely appreciate your presence during the hour of need. If he requires you to walk an extra mile during a crisis, that is because the situation demands. We are all dependent on each other in some way or the other. Take on new challenges. Beware of getting used but make sure you are one of the most useful employees to have around. If you go beyond the call of duty, the rewards are many
Your boss was not born yesterday:
If you're not keeping well do not send a text message to inform him. It is very obvious that you're lying. Most bosses have sweated out to reach to the top and they are no strangers to the tricks of the trade. Next time call your boss and talk to him directly if you're not well. He will appreciate you for this attempt.
Being Busy?
Nothing is more irritating for a boss than having to put up the employee who insists on swiping in at nine in the morning and swiping out at six in the evening. Concentrate on the results and not on being busy. Time is the most important and the scarcest resource available and it goes without saying that we've got to treat it with utmost respect. Your boss is interested only in the results so 'work smart!'.
I'm sorry!
Your boss will respect you if you acknowledge your mistake but if he gets to know about the mess you've created via other sources; your credibility is at stake. Resist from covering it up. He will take the necessary steps to rectify the situation.
Problems, problems!
It annoys most bosses when you go to them with problems instead of solutions. If there is a problem at hand the solution can't be far behind. Your boss would rather you to solve your problems on your time.
After all, you know the job better than anybody else!
